A robust 14k opal diamond accent brooch pendant for a brutalist jewelry collection. The focal point of this piece boasts a large oblong opal cabochon bezel set with prongs in the center of organic gold frame. The textured frame reminds of tree bark and is decorated with raised/engraved designs, oxidized details, and 3 prong-set diamond accents.
We believe the opal is synthetic made from a glass cap with an iridescent inner coating that refracts light to create the inclusions. There is a milky white discoloration on the inside of the glass, possibly from heat or moisture, but we are uncertain of the exact nature of the damage. The diamonds may also be synthetic and we cannot guarantee their authenticity. Regardless, this piece remains robust, finely detailed, and magnificent to look at.
The brooch is secured with a horizontal safety pin at the top of the setting, but there is also a small hole at the base of the frame for a necklace loop if someone wanted to wear it as a pendant. The back of the setting has been marked '14k' and the gold has been acid tested for authenticity. Overall good/fair vintage condition with described imperfections and minor wear/discoloration.
