An iconic pair of Sonwai 14K inlay stud earrings by recognized Native American Indian lapidary artist, Verma Nequatewa. Verma learned her craft from her uncle, Charles Loloma, a renowned and influential 20th century Hopi Native American artist. Loloma popularized the use of a gold and gemstones not typically seen in Hopi jewelry, and these earrings are a perfect example.
Featuring a beautiful gemstone inlay of lapis lazuli, turquoise, coral, and what looks like gemstone pyrite blend. The stones are set in a solid yellow gold setting with soft rounded edges and geometric shapes. The earrings have some weight to them and drop nicely from gold posts fixed to the upper back of the setting .The backs have a brushed finish and have been signed 'Sonwai (with their butterfly logo) and '14K'. The gold has also been acid tested for authenticity.
In great vintage condition with minor wear and discoloration.
