A lovely 12K rose gold mourning braided hair brooch pin from the Georgian era. Mourning jewelry was popular in the mid 1800's before photography became readily available and was made for the remembrance of loved ones. This brooch features delicate brown/gray hair woven into a braid and framed under an oval piece of crystal bezel set in a puffed rose gold frame. The pin secures with handmade safety catch and has some slightly warping from wear. There is some discoloration to the gold, most notably on the back and sides of the setting. Overall this pin is a wonderful and rare piece of history in good vintage condition.
