1950s Hopi Preston Monongye Cast Sterling Silver and Turquoise Modernist Cuff Bracelet
one of a kind
Why we love it: Crafted by famous early modernist silversmith Preston Monongye (1927–1991). Born in California to a Mission Indian mother and a Mexican father, he was adopted by a Hopi family and lived at Hotvela (Hotevilla), on Third Mesa, where he was initiated into Hopi society and began to learn the craft of jewelry making. This bracelet is exceptional; the silver has a rough texture from casting, which complements the clean modernist stripes and well-cut turquoise rectangles. This bracelet is heavyweight and in incredible condition for its age, with Monongye‘s signature hallmark strikingly printed on the inside of the cuff.
